Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study


Utility Systems, Science and Software (US3) provides Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES) to investigate the condition of the sanitary sewer system.  As a first step in the process, a Sewer Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) study will be performed to evaluate the system.  US3 will identify the sources and causes of I/I using a variety of tools and developing cost effective solution to reduce or eliminate the issues.  US3 has a team of experienced and, licensed engineers and field technicians that have extensive experience in the application and implementation of SSES projects. Sewer Flow Monitoring

US3 provides Flow Monitoring to identify the amount of flow in the sewer line. The collected data is used to identify flow capacity and I/I sources. US3 provides all of the instrumentation, manpower and reporting for Cities and Agencies that require accurate assessment of their sewer system.

Inflow/Infiltration Study

Utility Systems Science and Software (US3) provides Inflow/Infiltration (I&I) Studies to detect any I&I event resulting in sanitary sewer system overflows. I&I overflow events can occur when excessive groundwater enters the sewer system through flawed sewer lines, faulty connections or cracked/broken pipes.   Wastewater overflows negatively impact the health and safety of the community and jeopardize fresh water resources. US3 provides all of the instrumentation, manpower and reporting for Cities and Agencies that require accurate assessment of I&I issues.

Manhole Inspection

US3 performs manhole video inspection to examine manhole condition, perhaps a source of I/I, and update the existing Sewer Collection System Maps.

US3 uses advanced technology to accurately determine the manhole location and elevation ­­.US3 inspections include a comprehensive assessment of the pipe size and physical condition of the manhole structure highlighting defects including cracks, fractures and pipe breaks with recorded video analysis.

Sewer CCTV

US3 provides Sewer inspections by using Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) equipment.  Using the latest CCTV equipment and reporting methods, we can provide unmatched quality, flexibility and reliability in sewer inspection. Trouble spots, such as cracked or broken tiles, offset joints, and blockages are quickly and precisely located without excavation. Our software produces the most sophisticated – yet user friendly – data collection, analysis, reporting and archiving.

Sewer Jetting

US3 provides Sewer Jetting using high pressure water to clean sewer and sewer pipeline. Sanitary sewer and sewer pipelines require cleaning before the manhole inspection or sewer CCTV is performed.

Smoke Testing

US3 provides low cost method to identify the source of inflow and infiltration in sewer collection system with Smoke Testing. Smoke testing can be performed to determine the sources of excess inflow.

Although video inspection and other techniques certainly are important components of an I&I survey, research has shown that approximately 65 percent of all extraneous stormwater inflow enters the system from somewhere other than the main line. Smoke testing is a method of inspecting both the main lines and laterals. Smoke travels throughout the system, identifying problems in all connected lines, even sections of line that were not known to exist or thought to be independent or unconnected.

Smoke testing can aid in documenting sources of inflow and should be part of any CMOM program.

Dye Testing

Utility Systems, Science & Software (US3) performs dye testing by inserting non-toxic dye into defects of the sewer line to determine the location of the sewer leaks.  Dye testing is a method used to locate rain or ground water entry points into the sanitary sewer system
In some instances, dyed water is injected into the ground around foundations to check for the illegal connection of foundation drains. After introducing the dyed water, the downstream sanitary sewer manhole is checked, or if an inspection port is present, it is checked for dyed water. Dye testing with a non-toxic dye is one way of determining where a pipe or structure drains to if it is not obvious by observation or on existing plans or records. By conducting dye testing, inappropriate connections can be identified.
